Supposedly the next gen for the Xperia Mini. Rumored to have a 3" screen. I'm still hoping they keep the 2.5" screen. Something about the phone having the height and width of a credit card appeals to me.
Other rumored specs are a 1 GHz CPU and dedicated GPU (I doubt the GPU but hey, I won't mind if they put one in) and Android Gingerbread.

gingerbread?! honeycomb is already out, and even though it is a only rumor, SE wants to release this with gingerbread? come on!
ReplyDeleteby the time they release this phone on gingerbread, the successor to the honeycomb, ice-cream sandwich would already be out!
xperia dilemma again and again...
Well, currently, Gingerbread (2.3) is the latest Android for handsets while Honeycomb is for tablets. Until the Honeycomb (3.0) is actually widespread, that's the only time we will know if Google will release a unified OS or divide the handset and tablet versions.
ReplyDeleteThis is a rumor photo, not even classified as an official prototype. No news about it at all, not even the screen size is confirmed.
This could just be vaporware, I'm only hoping it isn't cuz all the new phones of SE, as nice as they are, are too bulky for me.
I'm still not convinced about the phones SE are putting out on advertisement until I see the actual units being sold around the country. So far, all I have about them are from blogs.
ReplyDeleteHey Risa, ya... until they announce it, I wouldn't really consider this even 'coming soon'
ReplyDeletewell, the Arc did came out, although with a disappointing specs. high-end smarthphones like what motorola came out with was equipped with dual-core cpu (Atrix).
ReplyDeletehoneycomb, although it is released for tablets, is now being ported to mobile phones as well. i think the guys at XDA already got it working (although not on any xperia phones).
I've been following the XDA's Mini Pro development thread and there are people there working on Honeycomb:

Although at the moment I'm just using their Froyo mod, I'm pretty much excited to see what else they can come up with. :D I'm enjoying the App2sd feature. You guys should try it out!
Hey Risa, been following that too. Just haven't had the time to try it out. Will do so next week. Although I don't see why SE can't just issue updates for the X10 family for Gingerbread and Honeycomb.
ReplyDelete@John: marketing reasons perhaps? so they create a need for people to buy their newer phone models, since the older products (x10) is no longer supported/no longer updated to current android version. which really sucks for a big company like SE
ReplyDeleteit looks like the whining of X10 owners had SE moved to update the phone to Gingerbread (android 2.3.3). although, it is the big x10 only that will be receiving the update (too bad for us x10 mini, x10 mini pro, and x8 owners).

Well, it's also official... Honeycomb is not going to be allowed on smartphones. Google has made it clear that this will be a 'tablet only' OS for now.
